The Windsor Spitfires have acquired 1998 born defender Tyler Nother from the London Knights in exchange for two draft picks. As close as the Western Conference in the OHL is, the Knights and Spitfires have a rivalry which one could argue is unmatched in the entire OHL, and the two teams rarely ever help each other out by engaging in a trade. It’s happened two times in the past couple weeks, first with Michael Giugovaz and now with Tyler Nother.
Between the trades that sent Michael Giugovaz and Tyler Nother to Windsor, Drake Rymsha to Ottawa and Ben Gleason to the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Knights have loaded the cupboards having now added two second round picks, one third round pick, one sixth round pick, one seventh round pick and though conditional, two fifteenth round picks. Many, including myself believe Basil McCrae and company will use some of these picks to acquire help to their most immediate needs which are on the blue line and in the net.
In Nother, the Spitfires get a serviceable young defender who was going to have a tough time cracking the Knights roster, especially after they go out and bolster it later on in the year. In parts of two seasons spent with the Knights, Tyler Nother has notched 2 points in 42 games played while adding 56 penalty minutes. Nother also played for Team Canada U17 last year where he contributed 12 penalty minutes and no points in 5 games played.
